By Nyree Reushle

After being home of the Haigslea Droughtmaster Stud for two decades the Mary Valley property “Haigslea” was sold at auction on Friday 21st March 2014 through Ray White Rural at their in-room auctions at Level 5, ‘Riverside Centre’, 123 Eagle Street Brisbane.  The property was purchased in 1993 by Doug Haigh and has been run as a very successful Droughtmaster Stud with an excellent reputation for producing quality cattle. Doug Haigh and partner Jen Mercer have decided to sell “Haigslea” to make way for a well deserved retirement and move to their home at Burrum Heads.

“Haigslea” represents an opportunity to acquire some of the most fertile country that the Mary Valley has to offer with an abundance of water. The property lends itself to Stud, Dairy or small crop production with quality alluvial creek flats along the Kandanga Creek. The property consists of 176.9ha (437.14 acres) on four freehold titles with approximately 72.84ha (179.98 acres) comprising of creek flats with the balance rising back to red volcanic soils with a variety of grasses including Kikuyu, Callide Rhodes, Hamill, Tinnaroo Glycene and Paspalum.

A total of 64 Megalitres in Water Licences is ready for use and which can be increased if required. There is also a further 117ha (289.10 acres) which can be irrigated from underground mains, with water available from various entitlements, including the Mary River.  Using several large dams, the land is irrigated through 6 inch PVC mains to 35 hydrants, with lines under Kandanga Creek then encompassing lots 135, 165 and lot 2 making this property ‘drought proof’.

Other improvements on the property include three bedrooms plus study home 14 years old, two bedroom ‘Glendale’ cottage, 60ft x 24ft machinery shed and three bay colourbond garage. There is also a second cottage on Mary Valley Road with a 170 sq meter lockable machinery shed and a third two bedroom cottage situated on lot 2 along Goomong Road. The property is subdivided into 30 paddocks and also incorporates two sets of cattle yards.  For further information contact Bruce Douglas 0417 602 603 or Jez McNamara 0427 270 280 Ray White Rural (Queensland).
