“Glenthomson” Longreach

By Nyree Reushle

After spending a lifetime on the land in the Longreach District Leilani and Rod Ross have made the very hard decision to move on, and sell their coveted property “Glenthomson”. The decision to move has been made with their 4 sons electing to follow professional pursuits, away from the land.
“Glenthomson” is located just 30 kilometres south of Longreach on the Thomson Development Road. Longreach is a well serviced regional centre with daily air and bus services, regular cattle sales, business services, school bus to Longreach with schooling from Pre School to Senior, recreational and sporting facilities. Longreach is also known world wide for its tourist attractions the Hall of Fame and Qantas Museum.
“Glenthomson” comprises 31,486 hectares (77,803 acres) which is predominantly open to lightly shaded Boree, Whitewood, Gidgea, and Supplejack gently undulating downs with heavy Mitchell pastures interspersed with Flinders and encroaching Buffel, with herbages in season.
Water is a strong feature of the property with 24 dams, some equipped with Monos, mills, tanks and troughs. Three main creeks including Ernastina, Wellshot and Andersens traverse the property which provides the dams with large catchments.
The improvements on the holding include 2 air conditioned 5 bedroom homesteads, 2 shearing sheds, 2 sets cattle yards, hayshed, machinery shed, workshops and staff accommodation as well numerous station outbuildings.
Currently “Glenthomson” is carrying 17,000 sheep including 6,500 ewes joined to lamb in May and 1,800 cattle, which displays the adaptability of the country to beef, sheep, breeding or fattening. The structural improvements have been carried out to allow the versatility of mixed grazing and breeding.
Over many years “Glenthomson” has been highly regarded in the Longreach district for its scale and capacity with the ability to adapt to cattle or sheep. The area where “Glenthomson” is located is one of the remaining successful sheep breeding and growing areas in Queensland.
“Glenthomson” is being offered by Private Sale.
