16 Years and 12 Grandchildren Later

By Nyree Reushle

After 16 years of ownership and 12 Grandchildren later the “Queen Street farmers” are looking at the beach and offer this very good farm to the market.

Kilbrogan” is a 350 acre property just 10 minutes from Allora in the Historic Goomburra Valley, home of Australia’s richest and deepest soils. There is 200 acres of soft cultivation country which is coupled to a 20 megalitre irrigation licence. The licence is fed from 3 bores which pump into a central dam. The cultivation is currently under oats and sorghum and will present well at settlement.

The owners carry 85 cows and calves throughout the year and turn off the yearlings each year. The balance of the country is 150 acres of breeder country with Masters Knob steeply ascending in the middle. This country has proven vital in wet times keeping the cattle off the cultivated country.

Kevin and Pat Mahony purchased the property 16 years ago to allow their 12 grandchildren a place to see and enjoy a different side from their city life. Kevin and Pat have also seen a different life as they had never owned a farm and had very limited rural knowledge. With the help and assistance of the local community they have raised cattle and crops and really do epitomise the “Queen Street Farmers”

Now in their 70’s they have purchased a unit overlooking the water and offer this outstanding property for genuine sale.”Kilbrogan could be the bargain of the Year” says Kevin. “We have purchased and the grandkids are growing up and so it is time to move on. We will be selling Auction day and really hope the new owners get the lifestyle and enjoyment out of the property that our family has.”

There is a comfortable country home with plenty of North facing glass and a great fully irrigated yard. Cattle and Machinery will be available to the purchaser. The property is 25 minutes to Warwick and 90 minutes to Brisbane.

Kilbrogan” was sold at Auction on Friday 16th May 2014 at the Riverside Centre in Brisbane. Peter Douglas and Peter Lane of Ray White Rural are the agents.
